In Kings County, custody and visitation cases go to the Kings County Family Court (New York City Family Court).
How supervised visitation works here
- Custody and visitation petitions are filed in the county where the child lives, and Family Court charges no filing fee.
- If a parent can't afford a lawyer, the judge may appoint one for free, and may appoint a lawyer for the child.
- Safe Horizon runs supervised visits at Brooklyn Family Court, but a judge or referee must order them first.
- Supervision can be done by an agency professional or a person both parents accept. Courts can also order monitored exchanges.
